Loan Officer Field Verification Visits
Microfinance and lending teams visit applicants at home and at their business before approving a loan. This covers running verification visits that really happen, follow the same checks and respect the applicant's privacy.
Microfinance institutions, banks and lending companies often check applicants in person, visiting their home, shop or farm before a loan is approved. The visit confirms that the applicant lives and works where they say, and it gives the credit team a view that no document can.
That only holds if the visits really happen and every officer does them the same way.
The problem with paper verification
A paper form signed by the officer proves very little. Visits can be skipped and the form filled in at the office, and photos can be old. Credit committees know this, so they give the verification less weight.
What a good verification visit records
- The applicant's address, held as a record before the visit.
- Where the officer was when the visit started, compared with that address.
- The time of the visit.
- A standard checklist: residence confirmed, business operating, stock or assets seen, neighbours or references spoken to.
- Photos of the business premises or stock, if the applicant agrees.
- Notes on anything unusual.
- The applicant's signature acknowledging the visit.
Consistency across officers
Every officer should check the same points. A short checklist for each loan type (business loan, agricultural loan, housing) keeps visits comparable and makes the credit committee's work easier.
Privacy and dignity
These visits go into people's homes, so set clear rules:
- Photograph the business, not the family.
- Ask before taking any photo and record the consent in the notes.
- Share personal details only with people who need them, restricted by role.
- Never share applicant information in group chats.
Managing loan officers
Loan officers spend most of the day in the field. Attendance with location, visits per officer, and visits that started far from the applicant's address tell managers what they need to know without constant phone calls.
What stays in the loan system
Credit scoring, loan terms, disbursement, repayments and collections belong in your loan management system. The field record supports the credit decision and does not replace the system of record.
In Movtro
In Movtro you can set up each applicant's address as a site and each verification as a job with a checklist, photos, notes and the applicant's signature, all captured on the phone and without signal if needed. Starting the visit records where the officer was and how far that was from the address, and visits that started far away are flagged. Officers clock in with location, and roles and permissions limit who can see what.

Movtro does not hold loan applications, credit decisions, repayments or collections, and it does not connect to loan management systems.
